Description:

A widget style for Qt4
- Pretty configurable
- More Mac than Windows - but no clone at all
- Don't ask me to port Baghira ;-)

For a nice overview on how to install and some extras, see
http://ubuntuevolution.wordpress.com/2010/01/07/nice-bespin-kde-4-desktop-part-1/
by Thalic

Changelog:

Ok, i feel like i need to point this out as kind of "warning":

I recently uncommented and worked on some code to add ARGB support (see screenshot #2)

Please consider this code as experimental.
Afaik no Qt style has done that yet and i only rarely tested it.

You /can/ enable it at compile time, but atm i strongly discourage to use it as default setting.
(setting the background opacity to 255 will bypass the critical parts)

You (c|sh)ould instead e.g. make a preset "MyFancyARBGPpreset" and run apps you want to test exporting an environment (from a capable shell, e.g. bash)
BESPIN_PRESET="MyFancyARBGPpreset"
You can also attach this preset to some apps, but i discourage from attaching it to "bespin" (to leave preserve a GUI way back ;-)

If you encounter bugs, of course please file them - but don't be surprised ;-)

- There's a known glitch with v/h gradient backgrounds and the tilebar (the gradient is randomly not painted)
- Animated Tab transition doesn't work for design conflicts (i'd need access to the backing store)
- w/o compositing "transparent == black" i.e. window bckgrounds will darken by the amount of translucency
- Windows that XEmbed other windows (virtually /all/ videoplayers) don't work at all (and i don't know whether they ever will)

Hi, are there any plans for bespin to support window grouping (KDE 4.4)?

 Icons

 by rahulthewall3000 on: Jan 31 2010

Hi, I am using the icons theme that is provided by you. However, I have a strange problem. Some applications (eg. firefox, systemsettings) display the icon from the bespin theme when they are launching (that is when the bouncy icon is there) but as soon as the application is launched they revert back to the default icon. Look at the image below for an example:
http://i.imgur.com/ZldJV.png

Can you please tell me why this is so?

several apps store icons in external places (ff for one) and set those on the window (as property) from where apparently the taskbar preferably takes them (this should be a bug in the taskbar lib code)

for ff it's usually "/usr/share/pixmaps/firefox.png" and you should be able to override it in your local "~/.mozilla/firefox/xxxx.profile/" directory

 Mouse Icon

by Thalic on: Feb 2 2010

Can you use this mouse icon for the bespin icon theme?
http://www.imageviper.com/displayimage/151925/0/mouse.png

I couldn't figure out how to make the blur thing around the icons (Gimp).

if you made the icon and have an svg ;-)

(the halo is done via imagemagick: copy, gaussian blur, tint)

Thanks! Seems I need some more apps to learn (I used Gimp). Been experimenting imagemagick yesterday. I'll get back when I figured it out :)

errr... imagemagick is a scriptable (only) image editor.
To do a vector icon (w/o the halo) use inkscape. The glow is automatically applied by the icon generating script.

 Icons and Firefox

by frapell on: Feb 5 2010

I'm sorry if someone already asked, but here i go. First, thanks for this theme, is really impressive.

Now the questions:

1) I followed instructions on how to install theme from SVN but i didn't get the icons installed... any advice ? (Using Debian AMD64 Unstable) and KDE 4.3.4

2) Is there a way i can make Firefox use the XBar as KDE apps do ?

thanks for your time.

 Blured icons and texts

by Novarg on: Feb 5 2010

Hi, thanks for this amasing style!

But i have a question. How can i disable this bluring on text and icons that applyed for disabled objects? (buttons, menue items, etc)

bespin config
-> Buttons/Toolbuttons
-> Disabled look

Picking the first item will likely result in different appearances of KDE and Qt apps (unless you're using KDE4 icons by DE support in latter Qt4.6)
The second item applies the "original" Qt desaturation to all apps.

There's currently no option for the disabled text, because etching (like in the windows stye) or dithering (like the CDE style) both look awefull and just fading (oxygen) doesn't seel the "disabled" enough...

If you can mock a better alternative, i'm gonna include it ;-)

 scrollbar feature request

 fresh
by riepernet on: Feb 9 2010

hi there,

is there a way to make the scrollbar smaller or (even better) completely disable the visual part of scrollbar (without loosing that functionality of course)?
even with the 2px hack it is just too heavy, imho.

somewhat related to that is also the size of the errr "separators" with which one can resize the parts of e.g. dolphin (folders, information, terminal etc.). Is it possible to change the size (width) as well?

since i am no dev, how-to or upstream is prefered ;-)

keep up the good work, especially also the icon set - this is just awesome.
