Description:

A Gmail notification widget for your desktop or panel.

This widget is designed to be docked in a panel, or added to your desktop, and display the number of unread messages in multiple Gmail accounts. Clicking on the widget will open the Gmail account in your favorite browser. The widget is written in python, meaning that there is no compiling necessary as long as you have the required script-engine installed.

For more screenshots visit the project homepage.

 Netbook - Change Configuration

by dogatemycomputer on: Nov 13 2009

Awesome Plasmoid!

I just wanted to pass along this little tidbit. My girlfriend has a Netbook which comes with a standard resolution of 1024x600. The plasmoid configuration screen does not have a scroll bar which prevents her from editing the bottom half of the configuration.

We connected her Netbook to an external monitor to get around the problem but I am sure there are plenty of others who would love to configure the plasmoid but simply cannot because of the screen real-estate limitation.

Thanks again for an awesome plasmoid!

Thanks for the comments and sorry about taking so long to get back to you. I think you are right about the configuration screen (it is something that I had not thought about). If possible, please take a look at the testing version of the plasmoid linked below and let me know if that configuration screen works better for you. Thanks again:

 Suggested Feature

by javierj on: Dec 1 2009

Great plasmoid, the best I have in my desktop.
I'd like to suggest the plasmoid command executed when clicked the icon should be associated with every account. So, if I'm monitoring two accounts and a new mail arrive I can click on the notification an it executes the command associated with the account which received the new mail.
This way if I click the icon and I have two accounts it should popup a menu whit two options and execute the associated command according to the account I clicked.
I would be useful when I use to different methods or applications to check my email.

 after the connection is broken

by AndrewM on: Dec 3 2009

After the connection is broken, mail is not checked.

If "gmial-plasmoid" try to check the mail while the broken internet connection, then after the connection is established, the mail will not be checked.

Sorry for my English.

 KDE 4.4 RC1 Problems

by fandingo on: Jan 14 2010

Great Plasmoid!

I am using KDE 4.4 RC1 (no betas, upgraded straight from 4.3.2) on Kubuntu 9.10. I have had no problems with the plasmoid in the past, but it does not work now. The plasmoid shows up, I can change settings fine, and I can click on it to open gmail in a browser fine. However, it will not auto-update. I just get the gray icon with a "!".

Not sure if there have been some API changes.

This is a fantastic app, please keep up the good work.

Follow up. I don't think this is related to KDE SC 4.4.

Gmail turned on HTTPS by default, and I think that is causing the problem.

There have been some changes to the python bindings and I am working on getting the plasmoid to work again. If possible, can you test the version at the bottom of the following issue and let me know if it fixes your problem? Thanks.

Interesting. Hopefully we can figure out what the problem is. First, please let me know what is written in the pop-up dialog when you hover over the plasmoid. Second, it would be interesting to know if the same problem occurs or if any error messages are returned when you run the plasmoid using the plasmoid viewer (i.e. run “plasmoidviewer gmail-plasmoid” in a console). If any errors are returned in either of these situations then please open an issue on the Google Code page for this plasmoid (see the “Link” above the plasmoid description). Thanks.

There is a red x icon where the widget icon is suppose to be. The message reads:

Quote:
"Could not create python ScriptEngine for gmail-plasmoid widget."

That means that one of the packages needed to run python plasmoids is either not installed or not working correctly (I was having the same issue under openSUSE until yesterday). The plasmoid should start working again once the packages are updated correctly. Sorry I cannot be more help.
