Description:

WindowsXP, "User Account Pictures" or "Logon Icons" for KDM.
Maybe some people are missing some colorful icons from their windows installation. NOW, moving from windows to linux is even more simple ;P

License:
license ? whatever..
people who use winxp, may find these icons inside their windows-installation.. ;)
i could zip and upload them, but maybe, copyright is 'wrong', but if it is no problem, tell me.

 License

by telex on: Mar 28 2003

This dismissal of the licensing of material really has to stop. People have to realise that it is a serious issue, and that web sites like KDE-LOOK can be taken down for copyright infringement, because contributors didn't think twice about submitting content. Others might be cautious about using, modifying and redistributing content they find on this site unless the licensing is clearly stated.

If your work is original, please carefully consider your license, and state it. If not, then please check the licensing of appropriated materials, and gain permissions where necessary.

Licensing is not the joke many make it out to be on this site.

 No license problems

Take another look. He she didn't upload anything illegal.

The download is just a screenshot. Is it illegal taking a screenshot of XP icons?

 Re: No license probl

by telex on: Mar 28 2003

No, you're quite right, this submission is perfectly legal. But that wasn't my point... I took issue with the way the person said "license ? whatever..", and (perhaps unfairly) then took that as an opportunity to try and make my point about a problem affecting many submissions on this site. Contributors need to take more care of the license.

Usually it isn't. But all icons
together and in this context here??
It's certainly clever to do just
a screensot but gray area of
low nevertheless IMHO. Any law experts
out there? BTW why do people always
try to make KDE look like Windows or
like Mac. I'm using KDE with Noia Icons,
Keramik Window Decoration and
Liquid Crystal and there are a lot of
other native styles to choose from.
For KDM I have found some useful
icons on
http://www.pixelgirlpresents.com
Some are quite usable for KDM others
too childish. Go figure out yourself
(and convert them with the OS X converter
found somewhere on this site)

 Re: License

by mononoke on: Mar 28 2003

hmmm :)
actually, I don't know yet, where Microsoft has stolen these icons from, though, redistributing even stolen icons could be a problem too, that's why i didn't upload the icons yet. actually, i wonder, which stuff of windows is not stolen from other OS..
How long we can set icons on users in KDM, and how long we can set icons in 'windows logon'. hmmmm. ^-^
thanx

Microsoft might not do a lot of things just as the open source, FSF, etc. community might like them to, but you can bet that their legal department wouldn't let them "steal" some icons for distribution with *every* copy of Windows XP sold.

 Re: License

by mononoke on: Mar 28 2003

hm, i just didn't know exactly about the license, but of course, i care about that, that's why i didn't upload the icons yet, but, i remember right now, there also exists a win_xp theme/style on kdelook, and there are also wallpapers, icons and even window-decoration (copied?) from MS..
so maybe it is no problem to upload these few icons too ?

 Nice screenshots...

by Sudonix on: Mar 28 2003

...and even nicer login names, although there could be more :)
Anyways, good idea though I definitely don't miss(or never seen) any of those.

 Window Border

by WinterWolf on: Mar 28 2003

Why is there a window border in KDM?

That's because he used Xnest to take the screenshot (it opens a nested Xwindow)

Try "Xnest :2"
